SUMMARY:DIY Weaving & Mending Workshop (Mississauga)
DESCRIPTION:Overview\n\n\n\nLearn how to weave on a cardboard loom in a beginner-friendly workshop with Arwen! \n\n\n\n\nWant to mend? Please bring your own item in need of repairing to work on at the event\, or just bring yourself and learn how to weave on cardboard! \nWhat to expect\nJoin Heart Comonos for our Circular Economy Initiative workshops on Mending\, Weaving\, and Appliance Repair! These workshops are part of the Heart Comonos mission to promote environmental wellness through sustainable practices and skill development. \nOur goal for these workshops is to extend the usability of household items like clothing/textiles to minimize waste sent to landfills\, and to reduce our dependence on fast-fashion retailers. With help from our expert “fixers\,” we will do our best to repair items\, and to teach community members the skills required to do it for themselves with take-home mending kits for repairing clothing and textiles! \nThis is the second part of our “Cooksvile Brings It Back Around!” series. \nIn this workshop\, Arwen will teach you how to weave on a cardboard loom to create your own pattern. These projects can turn into a tapestry\, coaster or a patch for your clothing. She’ll also share how to repair holes in clothing with embroidery thread. If you have something you want to mend\, please bring it with you! \nMending is much more than just repairing a hole in your shirt. It’s a meditative practice that connects us to the things around us\, repairing fabrics and extending their stories. \nAll materials are provided — just bring yourself\, a willingness to learn\, and an open heart. Beginner friendly\, no experience needed! \nMeet the Facilitator\, Arwen\nArwen Muir Karaszewski is an artist and illustrator based in Ontario who has always been in love with nature\, teaching and learning. Currently\, she is studying Illustration at OCAD University where she runs a community meditation/art making group “Project Hope”. \nArwen also practices sewing and mending\, passionately teaching these skills with communities to extend the life-cycle of textiles\, encourage creative expression\, and build connection. We are all interconnected in this woven tapestry of life and we must work together with responsibility and listen to the heartbeat of the world\, for us and the next generations. With a background in activism and arts\, Arwen is excited to learn with others through the spirit of “Lartivism”. \nLearn more about Arwen’s work on her Instagram here: www.instagram.com/arwenskiartistry \nWe are deeply thankful to the Region of Peel for supporting this project through Peel Region’s Circular Economy Fund Initiative 2026. \nNOTICE OF PHOTOGRAPHY AND FILMING \nWhen you attend this event\, you will enter an area where photography\, and/or video recording may occur\, for promotional purposes. By entering the event space you consent to potentially being photographed or filmed\, and its release\, publication\, exhibition or reproduction by Heart Comonos. Questions or concerns? Speak to a Heart Comonos staff member at the event\, or email contact@heartcomonos.ca
