Join the Great Lakes Plastic Cleanup (GLPC)\, an initiative of Pollution Probe and the Council of the Great Lakes Region\, and a small team of volunteers to assist in the waste characterization and data collection process of debris captured by BeBot at Sibbald Point Provincial Park! \nThe BeBot is a beach-cleaning robot that captures plastic debris and other litter through sand-sifting technology. From smaller items such as plastic fragments and cigarette butts\, to larger take-out food and beverage containers\, the very first BeBot in Canada is able to collect a variety of items. SUMMARY:Recycle to Ride Bike Giveaway
DESCRIPTION:Giving used and unwanted bikes a second life. This program is partly funded by The Regional Municipality of York.\n\n\n\nOnly open to York Region residents. \nTimeslot tickets every 30 min. 4PM\, 4:30PM\, 5PM\, 5:30PM \nEvery year\, thousands of bikes are thrown away in landfills. Some of these bikes are in repairable and reusable condition and can be recovered for community benefit. Others can be stripped for usable parts and repair materials. Despite their remaining utility\, these bikes typically end up as scrap metal. \nThroughout the summer\, we will host a series of bike rescue clinics where volunteer can learn bike repair and refurbishment. Registration required. \nPlease note: All participants must complete a makerspace waiver before the start of the program. \nHAGO is an anti-poverty organization based in Brampton Ontario\, that aims to eliminate period poverty in Canada and developing countries. They have distributed hundreds of thousands of menstrual products since 2018. They serve individuals and centers across Canada\, the Caribbean\, and a few African countries. \nPeriod poverty is a worldwide health crisis that affects mental health\, reproductive health\, self-esteem\, and confidence. Reusable pads not only reduce waste to landfills but also ensure that individuals have consistent access to period products for years at a time\, eliminating period poverty sustainably.

Registration required.\n\nPlease note: All participants must complete a makerspace waiver before the start of the program.\n\nHAGO is an anti-poverty organization based in Brampton Ontario\, that aims to eliminate period poverty in Canada and developing countries. They have distributed hundreds of thousands of menstrual products since 2018. They serve individuals and centers across Canada\, the Caribbean\, and a few African countries.\n\nPeriod poverty is a worldwide health crisis that affects mental health\, reproductive health\, self-esteem\, and confidence. Reusable pads not only reduce waste to landfills but also ensure that individuals have consistent access to period products for years at a time\, eliminating period poverty sustainably.

DESCRIPTION:Need something for back to school? Have things to donate? Join us! \n\n\n\n\nPlease bring an item to swap and fill out our waiver either on Eventbrite or at the event! \nWhat to expect\nJoin Heart Comonos for our Circular Economy Initiative workshops on Mending\, Weaving\, and Appliance Repair! These workshops are part of the Heart Comonos mission to promote environmental wellness through sustainable practices and skill development. \nOur goal for these workshops is to extend the usability of household items to minimize waste sent to landfills\, and to reduce our dependence on mass-produced retailers. With help from our expert “fixers\,” we will do our best to repair items\, and to teach community members the skills required to do it for themselves. \nIn this event\, we will be hosting an item swap & exchange! Clothing and item swaps are useful for communities to share what we already have\, without buying new or throwing out what others can use. We hope that this event will support families preparing for back-to-school and other folks in the community looking to exchange items. Bring what you don’t need and leave with something you do! \nPlease bring one of the following (in good condition) to swap with an item you need: \n\nBackpacks\nStationary/arts supplies\nNotebooks/paper\nGood condition clothing/Bags\nSmall appliances\nSmall furniture\nToys/games\n\nWe are deeply thankful to the Region of Peel for supporting this project through Peel Region’s Circular Economy Fund Initiative 2026. We are also thankful to The City of Mississauga for helping us to run these events with knowledgable volunteers.

SUMMARY:Curbside Giveaway Day (Durham Region)
DESCRIPTION:Curbside Giveaway Day events are organized in cooperation with the local municipalities\, where residents place unwanted items in good condition—clearly marked FREE—on their curb for anyone to pick up. At the end of the Giveaway Day\, residents return unclaimed items to their home. \nPlease ensure items whether new or used\, are safe and meet current regulatory requirements. It is important to only place items that are in good condition. The Region is not responsible for quality of items placed out for the Curbside Giveaway Day.
