Caledon, Ontario – October 8, 2024: In celebration of Circular Economy Month and Waste Reduction Week, ecoCaledon is excited to host a Repair Café—a free community event that empowers residents to reduce waste and embrace sustainable practices. Join us on Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Humber River Centre (28 Ann Street, Bolton), and discover how easy it is to repair rather than replace broken items.

What is a Repair Café?

A Repair Café is a collaborative space where community members can bring broken or damaged items, such as small electrical appliances, clothing, jewelry, and more, to be fixed with the help of skilled volunteers. This event aligns with the principles of the circular economy, which focuses on minimizing waste and maximizing resource use by keeping products and materials in circulation for as long as possible.

Event Highlights:

  • 15+ Fixers and Exhibitors: Local volunteer fixers will assist with small electrical repairs, clothing and textile mending, jewelry fixing, pottery repair, and knife sharpening. Attendees are encouraged to bring any necessary repair materials (e.g., power cords, batteries, buttons, etc.).

  • E-Waste Collection by Dunk Disposal: As part of Waste Reduction Week, we are proud to offer an e-waste collection service provided by Dunk Disposal. Safely dispose of old electronics, such as phones, computers, and other devices, in an eco-friendly manner, ensuring these items don’t end up in landfills.

  • Community Engagement: Connect with local clubs and organizations focused on sustainability and join in on fun activities promoting green living.

  • Local Produce for Sale: Support local farmers by purchasing fresh produce that aligns with environmentally conscious living.

This Repair Café is hosted in collaboration with the Town of Caledon, emphasizing their commitment to environmental responsibility.

Circular Economy Month encourages the reduction of waste and the reuse of products, aligning with Waste Reduction Week, which is dedicated to educating Canadians on how to minimize waste in all areas of life. By attending the Repair Café, you’re taking an active role in both initiatives, helping create a more sustainable future for the community.

Join us in repairing, learning, and celebrating sustainability together!
