The Mississauga Cycles project started in 2019 as a joint collaboration between Peel Multicultural Council and CultureLink. Mississauga Cycles builds on the success of other Bike Hubs established by CultureLink in the GTA, connecting newcomers to their new community by bike. In 2023, Peel Multicultural Council became the lead for this program, with PMC staff leading programming throughout the year, including in winter for the first time. Since the program’s inception, the project has been generously funded by the Region of Peel as part of a network of bike hubs throughout Peel Region.
Mentorship Program
Are you a newcomer living in Mississauga looking to connect to your city by bike? Or perhaps you are a resident who already bikes and has cycling knowledge and skills you wish to share?
In our Mentorship Program, newcomer participants receive a free bike loan, accessories and safety training as well as being matched with volunteer mentors who commute regularly by bike! Together, mentors and newcomer participants organize and participate in a variety of group activities throughout the city. Through this program, running from June to October, newcomer participants improve their communication skills, bike riding skills, knowledge of bike routes, and bike maintenance, and enjoy free events and activities, all while exploring Mississauga by bike!
DIY Bike Hub
The “Do-It-Yourself” Bike Hub is all about providing you with the resources you need to become a safe and knowledgeable cyclist, both in navigation, maintenance and repair! Our weekly repair sessions (Tuesdays 4-7 pm) at PMC will build your knowledge on how different types of bikes work, repair basics, as well as regular cleaning and maintenance. Our pop-up clinics at community events will help build your confidence on the road, on the trails and everywhere in between. Stay up to date on cycling events and activities happening at PMC and in the community by visiting our events calendar and monthly newsletter, below!
Our DIY Bike Hub is now open, following all public health and safety regulations. You can find us at 6630 Turner Valley Road, accessed via the back entrance of the building. In ideal weather conditions and with larger groups, we will set up outside the building to ensure comfort and safety.
Registration is required for our DIY Bike Hub, as space is limited.\
Newcomer youth ages 14-30 can register for drop-in bike repairs, support our events, or participate in a six-week earn-a-bike program. In addition, any eligible member of the public may sign up as a volunteer mechanic to help us refurbish bikes at our weekly repair sessions. Donations of good-condition bikes are always welcome!
